Prone Paddling and Self Rescue on a Stand Up Paddle Board

In this article I demonstrate prone paddling, an important self rescue skill to master. I discuss where to position yourself on the board so that it sits flat, and what to do with your paddle to keep it out of the way.

You will use prone paddling to retrieve a paddle that is floating in the water, if your paddle broke, or as a self rescue technique when weather conditions are preventing you from paddling forward standing or kneeling.

As I mentioned at the end, prone paddling is also a really good shoulder workout :) Be sure to practice and have some fun with it.
